what is anxious attachment?

anxious attachment

Anxious attachment is an attachment style marked by fear of abandonment and a pull toward people who are inconsistent. It tends to form around caregiving that was loving but unpredictable, so closeness got filed as something you have to monitor rather than something that simply stays. In adulthood it looks like reading tone into short replies, needing reassurance and then not quite believing it, and finding secure people faintly boring. That last one matters most. The obsessive-thought machinery limerence runs on is largely borrowed from here, which is why anxiously attached people fall into it easily and read the intensity as depth.

can your attachment style change?

Yes, and the research on earned security is fairly clear about it. It moves slowly, usually through a long relationship with someone consistent, or through therapy, or both. It is not a personality type you are stuck with. It's a set of predictions your nervous system made early, and predictions update.
